Doxford Barns Wedding Photography - Jess and Jake
Doxford Barns is another venue that was high on our dream venues list that we are lucky enough to have worked at now. The weather left a bit to be desired, but rain on your wedding day is meant to be lucky. All we know is it can make for some amazing photographs if you’re happy to lean into it! Plus, weddings at Doxford Barns have a cheat code for rain because the indoor spaces are so beautiful and there’s not a lot of walking outside needed to get from one to another. We are so grateful that Jess and Jake decided to bring us along for their amazing wedding day and together we were able to capture some really beautiful photos despite the slightly uncooperative weather.

The ceremony room for weddings at Doxford Barns is unbelievable. The fairy lights are always one of our favourite parts and the lights in the ceremony room just make the whole place seem so magical. The whole venue is beautifully rustic and we both felt so comfortable with it. It fits our vibe so well and it was absolutely perfect for Jess and Jake. The indoor spaces are fantastic at Doxford Barns but the ceremony room is definitely our favourite!
Another of our favourite things to see on a wedding day happened too. Jess and Jake had brought their dog along. They have a little dachshund who absolutely killed it in his little suit. He was the best dressed on the day and definitely the goodest boy that ever was. We had to take him along for some of the shots with just Jess and Jake too, he’s an absolute modelling pro. Jake’s parents had their dog there too, we met him later on as he was bimbling about the reception with his tuxedo bib on his collar being a proper dapper chap.
Between the rain showers during the day we managed to get out with Jess and Jake to the cottages at Doxford where the guests would be staying and where they got ready on the morning. The little row of cottages is covered in a beautiful ivy plant that was a gorgeous, deep red colour. It reminded us of our wedding day back in October 2015, where we had the ivy at our venue a similar red colour and it was too good of an opportunity for us to pass up.
Jess and Jake had some really beautiful details and styling for their wedding. Jess’ mum had actually done all the planning and preparation and her attention to detail really made the most of the rustic Doxford Barns vibe.
We had the opportunity to shoot sparklers again at this wedding and they’re rapidly becoming one of our most and least favourite things at weddings! Sparklers look amazing and the photographs we get are always really beautiful but they take quite a bit of setting up. We have done sparklers before where the guests are not well behaved and light them early and things. Thankfully though, this wedding everyone was amazingly well behaved. We’ll probably end up doing another blog post about how to plan sparklers into your wedding day and sharing our top tips to make sure you get the shots you want with maximum safety and minimum shouting at people. We hate being bossy and taking over on a wedding day but sparklers and confetti are the two times that we will!
After the sparklers, we sent the majority of the guests inside and kept a few close friends out with us because the festoon lights over the patio were begging to be reflected and prismed.
Jess and Jake had us until their first dance and Doxford Barns were kind enough to wait for us to finish faffing about outside with the sparklers and the festoon lights and what not. Jess grabbed her personalised denim jacket and we got a few shots of them dancing away. We hung around for a few songs after their first dance, got some photos of everyone partying and then decided it was time to get back home so we said our goodbyes.
