Woodland Maternity Photos at Wynyard Woodland ~ Lais & Joe
There's something really special about getting to photograph people at different chapters of their lives. We first met Lais and Joe when they booked us to photograph their wedding, and after navigating the chaos of being a Covid wedding couple (and all the postponements that came with it), we got to know them really well.
But, life has a funny way of getting busy, and it's been a few years since we last saw them. So when they got in touch to book a maternity photoshoot, we were absolutely thrilled to be reconnecting with them for this next adventure.
We kept things gentle, taking a slow wander through the woodland and stopping whenever we found a particularly lovely patch of light. There's no need to trek miles for beautiful maternity photos, especially when you're carrying a whole extra human around with you!
And goodness, did the woodland light deliver.
Lais looked absolutely radiant, with the dappled sunshine filtering through the trees and catching the most beautiful little details.
We have always loved maternity photography, but since Rebecca's own pregnancy and the arrival of our little boy last year, these sessions have taken on an even deeper meaning for us.
There's something quite extraordinary about those months before your baby arrives. It's almost like taking a big breath in before everything changes. It can feel like you're constantly getting ready for what's next, without always having the chance to stop and appreciate where you are right now.
But pregnancy is such a fleeting chapter. Around nine months, give or take, and then suddenly you're living a completely different life. You might remember the excitement, the anticipation, and the feeling of waiting to meet your baby, but it's surprisingly easy to forget the little details of what it actually felt like to be there.
That's one of the reasons we think maternity photos are so important. Not just as a way to remember your pregnancy, but as a chance to celebrate you.
Pregnancy affects everyone differently. It can be beautiful, exhausting, uncomfortable, emotional, or all of those things rolled into one ~ and it can leave you feeling a little disconnected from yourself. When so much of your attention is focused on the little person growing inside you, it's easy to forget the incredible person you already are.
Taking time out for a maternity photoshoot can be a lovely way to reconnect with yourself, and recognise just how incredible your body is.
For Lais and Joe, it was also a chance to celebrate this moment together. Because while the baby is very much the star of the show already, this part of their story belongs to them, too.
Having photographed them so many times before, we could really play around with the creative side of things. We experimented with multiple exposures, layering moments together to create something a little different from your typical woodland maternity portraits. It's always a joy when we can let our creative brains run wild with people who trust us, and we're so proud of how these images turned out.
More than anything, though, we loved getting to spend time with these two again. There's something really lovely about being invited back into someone's life years after their wedding, to document another milestone and create photographs that will mean something entirely different to them in the years to come.
If you're looking for maternity photos in the North East or Yorkshire, we'd love to help you celebrate this little in-between chapter. Whether you're feeling radiant, a little apprehensive, completely exhausted, or all three at once ~ you deserve photographs that remind you how wonderful you are.
