Post-Wedding Gothic Romance at Whitby Abbey

When it comes to your wedding day, it can be a bit of a whirlwind. Between trying to see everyone, get some down time, eat the amazing food, and get involved in the activities you’ve planned and spent probably hundreds of pounds on ~ it can leave very little time for those magickally whimsical photos you really wanted to remember your day.

This is even more true if you wanted to leave your venue and get photos somewhere properly special to you. Frankly, there just aren’t enough hours in the day.

Which is where the magick of a ✨Wild Wander✨ comes in.

These are our signature sessions. They combine the romance of a pre-planned adventure date night, with the whimsy of getting your photos taken. And, they are PERFECT for booking after your wedding to get those magickal photos you wanted on your wedding day.

Which is exactly what we did for Hannah and James.

These two tied the knot in the fantastically whimsical setting of Sneaton Castle in Whitby (one of our top 5 North Yorkshire wedding venues) on Friday 13th October. An auspicious day in any witches calendar, a day full of power and ritual ~ the perfect date for a deliciously gothic wedding day.

Now, getting married in Whitby, it would be a shame to NOT get some photos at the abbey, but alas, there simply wasn’t enough time on their wedding day to hop in the car and drive all the way there, get photos, and then come back. Instead, we concocted plans to meet a few days after their wedding and embark on a little adventure to the abbey.

Rebecca took notes when watching Hannah getting dressed in her beautiful custom gown, so when the time came she was able to recreate the precise knots of her corset so she looked just as beautiful the second time she wore her spider adorned gown. Then we all piled in to our little car, and off we went to the abbey.

** We should mention at this point that there is a fee to have your wedding photos taken at English Heritage sites. The cost of which varies depending on the site.

The October sun was shining, and we had the most glorious golden hour for their session in the abbey ruins. As it was close to closing time, the site was also blissfully empty, we had the whole place to ourselves to explore to our hearts content and take our time crafting truly unique wedding photos for these lovers.

We even brought our speaker, so we could play their first dance song ~ Friday I’m in Love by The Cure. They twirled and swayed in the shadows of this once great abbey, eye’s closed against the low sun and just enjoying each other’s company, mindless to our shutters during the forming of such a core memory.

Of course, Whitby Abbey is a truly iconic landmark on the Yorkshire coast, but you can chose anywhere for your post wedding photos. Perhaps it’s the wild moor at sunset, or hiking a mountain at sunrise, or having a dip in a waterfall? The glorious thing about post wedding wild wanders, is that there are no rules and the only limit is your imagination. No wedding coordinators keeping you to a timeline, no family needing your attention, no sore feet needing a rest. Just you, your love, and a realm of possibilities.
