The sun has arrived, and with it those hazy nights that make you think of campfires and sea dips and slow summer days. We’re sure we’re not the only ones feeling a little romantic on these long days of early summer. So, if you’re in need of a little date night inspiration you’ve come to the right place.
We’re North Yorkshire wedding photographers, who specialise in adventurous vibes for wildish folks just like you. We’ve created three super cute and fun date night ideas for you to try with your fave folk, perfect for crafting nostalgic memories.
But, if you don’t fancy doing the planning yourself, these date nights are also available to book as our ‘Sundown Side Quests’. We create the experience, you come along, and together we capture whimsical photos for you to remember forever.
Ready to be inspired?
Cottagecore Picnic
This is for the lovers of slow paced retro. Think blankets in a field of long grass, reading books together beneath the dappled shade of a tree, identifying wild flowers in ancient woodlands.
The goal here is to slow down and connect. Here’s what you need for this date night:
Find a cute field with public access, if it’s got a tree in it even better!
Wear your cutest, hobbit inspired fits ~ linens, floaty dresses, bare feet
Pack a picnic ~ cucumber sandwiches, strawberries, fairy cakes, and something bubbly to drink
Bring a book, leave the phone behind.
Head out into the wilds, spread your blanket on the ground, and get cosy! Braid flower crowns if you can, read passages of your book to each other, feed each other finger foods, and embrace a little connection.
Island Alchemy
As a couple who live on the North Yorkshire coast, this is one of our fave date nights to indulge in. There’s nothing we love more than getting sandy toes and hunting for shells and fossils or dipping in the sea.
Our beach date night invokes calm and peace as you listen to the waves crash on the sand, and get warm by the fire after your sea dip. What you’ll need:
A quiet stretch of beach ~ even the busiest of beaches have quiet spots. Just keep wandering and you’ll find it
Make sure to wear shoes you can slip off, and clothes you don’t mind getting wet and/or sandy
Bring supplies for a campfire, plus marshmallows to roast for when you get peckish
When you’ve found your spot, it’s blanket/towel on the sand and shoes off time. Hold hands with your love and brace yourself for that cold English water! There’s something so fun about laughing your way into the cold, seeing how deep you can go before you need to rush back.
After your sea dip, get that fire lit. Snuggle up together, watch the sunset over the waves and roast some marshmallows.
Moorland Roam
Our final date night idea is about taking in a true Yorkshire spectacle ~ the yearly explosion of moorland heather. Every year, around July and through to September, the moors light up with purple blooms. It’s a beautiful sight and one not to be missed!
This date night is less about slowing down and more about a little windswept exploration. For this one you don’t need much:
A flask of tea and good walking boots.
Find a route to walk, we like wandering around Danby and Ainthorpe, the heather up that way is beautiful, plus if you’re lucky you might also be able to forage some bilberries!
As you wander, it’s the perfect time to chat about everything and nothing. Or, one of our fave things to do ~ spot some birds! If you haven’t already, you must get the Merlin Bird App. It’s great for identifying birds by the sounds they make.
After your walk, or maybe half way through, crack open that flask and take in the rolling purple moorland.
Hopefully, this has inspired you to embrace a little summer adventure in the North Yorkshire Moors. If so, we’d love to help you craft some nostalgic moments.
